Watching TVRomantic Comedies. Chick Flicks. Movies that make us believe that no matter how much we screw up, in the end we’ll have a happily ever after.

In a recent NY Daily News article, “Romantic comedies ruin real-life relationships” they cited a poll of 1000 Australians, that found that almost half said romantic comedies have ruined their view of an ideal relationship. The findings were released by Warner Home Video to mark the movie “Valentine’s Day” (a romantic comedy) going to DVD.

The happily ever after endings  in romantic comedies can be addictive. It makes you feel good to see someone getting the love you’re looking for in your life. But is it realistic.

Not Really.

How many couples do you know who have the wonderful relationships like in the movies? The ones that do usually work damn hard at it and truly love the person they’re with.

So screw up every aspect of dating and relationship building  with lies, jealousy, miscommunication, and massive amount of drama. Then wait for your happily ever after walking down the aisle with perfect man for you. While it’s possible,  it usually doesn’t work like that.

So if you love romantic comedies remember to think of them as 90 minutes of light-hearted fun. A brief escape into a fantasy world. But when the movies over come back to earth and remember it’s not as an example of how real relationships work.

If you’re not able to do that, trust me, your guy would be more than happy to take you to see the latest action flick.
